Social Media in Social Research 2013 conference

The Social Research Association holds an annual conference each year focusing on the use of social media in research. The 2013 conference is now open both for bookings and for the submission of papers.   5. Nice information, although the poster is too small to read comfortably. Anyway, I got the key information by following the link.

    One critical problem to me for using social media for research concerns the bias of data collection. Obviously, digital divide allows us collect data from the social media users only, who are not unbiased sample for our society. I guess social media cannot be used for all types of research questions, especially those relevant to the general population.

    NotesToday: Yes, this is an ongoing debate amongst researchers using social media. Are we interested in a point in time from people who are available, or are we in need of a representative sample? I agree that the research question should come first, with the methods/technology to be chosen based on appropriateness.
